Introduction

Psoriasis and inflammatory disease burden

Psoriasis is a chronic immune-mediated inflammatory skin disorder characterized by keratinocyte hyperproliferation, epidermal hyperplasia, and dysregulated immune responses involving Th1 and Th17 pathways. Key cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-17, and IL-23 play a central role in sustaining inflammation and disease progression. The condition is associated with significant physical discomfort, psychosocial burden, and systemic comorbidities including metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease.

Role of herbal therapeutics in psoriasis

Recent research has increasingly focused on plant-based bioactive compounds as adjuncts or alternatives to conventional therapies due to their multi-targeted pharmacological actions, favorable safety profile, and long history of traditional use. Its multi-targeted mechanism and favorable safety profile support its role as a promising adjunct in integrative psoriasis management,3 although further clinical trials are required to establish standardized therapeutic protocols and long-term efficacy.
